IP2: Innovations in Periodontics

This session is intended to showcase clinical advances and/or translational research with direct application to patient care. These speakers were selected for the 2019 SUNSTAR Innovation Grant and were invited to present their funded research at this session. Each speaker will give a 15-minute presentation on their research project, followed by a five-minute Q&A period.
Educational Objectives:
- Consider the implementation of cutting-edge sequencing technology that created the first single cell map of gingivitis in humans and the differences between sexes in the gingival pocket during biofilm-induced inflammation.
- Evaluate patients’ risk factors and oral hygiene to develop effective intervention strategies to improve caregiver-delivered mouth care and decrease care resistant behaviors.
- Utilize a Precision Periodontal Health Care Chart (PPHCC) consisting of the information of risk factors and risk assessment to help patients understand periodontal diseases and assist clinicians in making a personalized treatment plan.
